This shot was taken at the head of North Rock Creek near the base of 13,041 foot Grand Traverse Peak. Above and left of this small lake, the summit is almost visable at the top of the picture. The sawtooth ridge directly above the lake is known as the Grand Traverse. Over that ridge and downhill a few miles is Vail, Colorado. This place is not easy to get to, as there is no trail most of the way. Options for access include bushwhacking through dense forest, scrambling for miles over large boulders, or both. I don't know why there is no forest service trail leading here but I had it all to myself. |
