Of the 54 mountains more than 14,000 feet high in Colorado, Mt. Sherman is less difficult to climb than many. There are two standard routes; from the east near Leavick outside of Fairplay; and from the west in Iowa Gulch outside of Leadville. Seen in the distance are several Sawatch Range fourteeners including La Plata Peak, Mt. Elbert, Mt. Massive and Mount of the Holy Cross. Southeast is Pikes Peak in the haze about 60 miles away.
