William Henry Jackson first photographed Mount of the Holy Cross from near this spot on 13,237 foot Notch Mountain back in 1873. Interestingly, there was more snow in the cross for his August 23 photo than there is in this shot from July 23, one month earlier. In addition to Holy Cross, notable landmarks seen from here on Notch Mountain are Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive to the south, Torreys Peak and Grays Peak to the east, and Vail and Cooper ski areas.
